Can a solar pump run without batteries?
DC solar pumps are designed to run directly from the panels through a controller, with output rising and falling with the sun. Add a tank to store water for the evening instead of buying batteries.
How many solar panels does this pump need?
As a rule, size the array at about 1.2–1.5 times the pump's rated power so it performs in the morning, evening and hazy weather. Check the controller's voltage range before wiring panels in series.
How deep can it pump, and how much water will I get?
Head is the vertical lift plus pipe friction, and flow falls as head rises. Use the head and flow figures in the specifications above, and choose a pump with some margin over your real head.
Does it need dry-run protection?
Yes. Running a pump dry damages it. Use a controller with dry-run protection or a float or level switch in the source and the storage tank.
What pipe and cable should I use?
Use pipe at least the size of the pump outlet. Use properly rated solar cable sized to keep voltage drop low, especially on long runs. Ask us for a full list for your site.
