What size generator do I need?
Add the running watts of everything you want to power at the same time, then allow for the biggest start-up surge, since fridges, pumps and compressors draw two to three times their running power when starting. Add 20–30% headroom. As an example, a fridge, TV, lights and a small pump usually need about 3.5–4kVA. This model is rated 2Kva.
Petrol or diesel generator: which is better?
Petrol sets cost less, are lighter and suit occasional backup. Diesel sets cost more but use less fuel per kWh and are built for long daily running.
How long will it run on a tank?
Runtime depends on tank size and load. Petrol sets typically burn about 0.4–0.6 litres per kWh produced at partial load, so divide the tank size by the fuel burn at your actual load. Running at 50–75% load is most efficient.
Can it run my fridge and TV together?
Yes, if the generator covers the fridge's start-up surge plus the TV. A 2kVA set is usually enough for a fridge, TV and lights. Start the fridge first, then add other loads.
My generator will not start. What should I check?
