Frequently Asked Questions
Which welding machine is right for me?
Choose by the metal thickness you weld and how often you weld. Higher amperage welds thicker metal. Check the current range and duty cycle in the specifications.
What electrodes should I use?
As a rough guide, 2.5mm electrodes suit about 70–100A and 3.2mm electrodes about 100–140A. Always follow the electrode maker's current range.
Can it run on a generator?
Yes, if the generator can supply the welder's input power. Check the welder's input rating and size the generator above that.
What safety gear do I need?
A welding helmet with the right shade, welding gloves, a flame-resistant jacket and closed boots. Weld in a ventilated area.
My welder has no arc or a weak arc. What should I check?
Check the earth clamp contact, cable connections, electrode condition, current setting and the supply voltage. Overheating protection may have tripped, so let it cool.
